We are thrilled to announce that the recipients of the AXA Local Community Awards have been selected! After receiving a wide array of wonderful entries, we have been privileged to witness the fantastic work carried out by dedicated individuals in local communities across Northern Ireland. The passion and commitment demonstrated in all these outstanding entries showcases the remarkable impact that local groups have on building a better future for their communities, making it difficult for our branches to choose the award recipients. From innovative projects that address environmental sustainability, to initiatives that foster social inclusion and skills development, the dedication of these local groups is truly inspiring.
Recognising outstanding impact
Among the impressive entries we received, one outstanding project has been selected to receive a £10,000 fund, while numerous local groups have been chosen as recipients of the £2,000 fund. The dedication demonstrated by these groups exemplifies the positive impact they are making within their communities, and we are honoured to recognise and support their invaluable efforts.
Active Youth NI
Active Youth NI, the recipient of the £10,000 award, aims to ensure all children have access to physical activity through a programme designed to instil healthy habits and address the gap in physical, mental, and social well-being outcomes. The programme is inclusive, non-sport specific, and focuses on engaging and supporting every child, regardless of their gender, socio-economic status, background, or experiences outside school. Through their transformative programmes, Active Youth NI is contributing to a healthier, happier, and more resilient generation in Northern Ireland, making a lasting impact on the lives of young people and creating societal change.
Empowering communities through impactful initiatives
The recipients of the £2,000 AXA Local Community Awards represent a diverse range of impactful initiatives, each addressing crucial needs within their communities. For example, one group supports adults who are lonely and isolated, providing friendly calls and social activities to help them feel connected and enhance their emotional well-being. Another initiative focuses on supporting the mental health needs of young people excluded from mainstream education, while a different group provides leisure activities for adults with learning difficulties, promoting positive mental health and reducing social isolation. These initiatives demonstrate the positive impact of the award recipients' work, addressing diverse needs and making a meaningful difference within their local communities. Here are the award recipients of the £2,000 fund thus far, with more to be announced in the coming weeks.
